What hydro trenching is

Hydro trenching uses pressurized water to cut a trench. Then a vacuum truck removes the soil. Therefore, the trench is only as wide as the job requires.

Contractors also call it slot trenching.

Why contractors choose hydro excavation trenching

A trencher or backhoe cuts everything in its path. However, hydro trenching exposes existing lines instead of breaking them. As a result, crews can trench through congested ground.

In addition, a narrow trench means less backfill and less restoration.

Types of trenching we provide

  • Utility trenching for water, gas, electric and telecommunications lines
  • Slot trenching to locate utilities across a route
  • Foundation trenching in hard-to-reach areas
  • Trenching for underground cable and conduit
  • Trenching for drainage and irrigation lines

Trenching where equipment cannot go

Some trenches sit behind buildings or beside buried infrastructure. Meanwhile, excavators cannot reach them safely. Our hose reaches several hundred feet from the truck.

Because spoils go into the truck, the site stays clear.

Trenching in frozen ground

Winter stops most trenching. However, our trucks carry heated water. We trench through frost so your schedule holds.

Who uses hydro trenching

Utility contractors use it to install lines beside existing ones. Civil contractors use it near foundations and structures. Additionally, municipalities use it for water and drainage repairs. Engineers also use slot trenches to find every utility crossing a planned route. In each case, the trench protects what is already in the ground.
